THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT

ARTEFACTUM STUDIO, Ekaterinburg
A genuine museological essay

We do not declare this is the same House that the same Jack built. Perhaps the other story has been told here just very similar to the one well known to everyone almost from the cradle. It is important that we guarantee the authenticity of all these evidences.

The exhibition as a genuine museum fantasy on the subject of an old folk rhyme has been a free translation of its famous plot into attractive and intriguing visual shape.
Everyone is hoped to share in a certain slightly ironical game, which is being continuously played by authors and exhibits and visitors jointly. So the display provides rich opportunities for everyone to get amusing entertainment.

Being addressed to persons of any age, the exhibition appeals mainly to human’s lively imagination and poetical sense.
‘The House That Jack Built’ was invented and made up in 1997 with dedication to the 125 Anniversary of Johan Huizinga and was then awarded a Diploma and a Prize of the Second Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale. Since 1999 it constitutes a component of the long-term project called ‘Diptych. An Attempt of Widening Horizon’ run by the Artefactum Studio thanks to support of the ‘Open Society — Russia’ Institute (G.Soros Foundation).
