Johan Huizinga (1872-1945).
The outstanding Dutch thinker specialized in history of culture. The most known works are ‘Autumn Of The Middle Ages’, ‘Homo Ludens’ (‘A Human Playing’), and ‘In The Shadow Of Tomorrow’. A quotation from the latter was used as an epigraph for the exhibition:
The culture must be orientated metaphysically, otherwise it has not been at all.
